OxFam: Secondhand September Pledge 2019

Saturday, September 07, 2019

BERRRR months are here and so is layer season. This can only mean one thing to cosumers and that is to buy layers and layers of F/W 2019 fast fashion collection. As a result of this, Ireland sends 250,000 tonnes of clothing to the landfill every year and this year, OxFam Ireland has started a campaign to promote sustainable fashion through the campaign Secondhand September. This campaign is aimed to encourage consumers to practice a more fashionably sustainable lifestyle by saying no to new clothes, and I have decided to take the pledge to join this movement for 30 days.

I do believe that this will be a tricky challenge for me because I did work in fast fashion before and in between shifts, while unboxing the new deliveries of the latest clothes in the stockroom, I would already grab my size and buy it during my break. However, it is a fun oppurtinity to rade my wardrobe and get creative some outfits.

For this pledge, I'm going to keep count of how many times I wore clothes I bought before 2019 and how many times I bought fast fashion pieces (hopefully none!). I'll also be sharing my tritfy finds on instagram @jerlidawn

At the end of the month I'll give a summary of how my Secondhand September went and share the sustainable/thrifted looks I made. Also, let me know if you're joining or you've joined Secondhand September!
